Recognizing that gender equality is not solely a women's 'issue' but a challenge for both men and women, there remains a lack of research and policy development on men and gender equality, particularly at the local level. This research addresses this gap by exploring the regional background of the masculine culture in Jeju, conducting a secondary analysis of data from a survey on residents' gender equality awareness, and undertaking in-depth interviews with 36 men across various occupations. The objective is to develop insights into the changing gender role perceptions among different generations of men, shifts in the construction of masculinity meanings, and the need for gender equality policies. The research proposes policy tasks across 5 domains: schools, families, communities, labor environments, and policy taking into account the unique characteristics of each generation of men.
