Despite nearly three decades since the revival of local elections in 1991, the level of women's political representation in Jeju remains remarkably low. The region has yet to achieve representative politics that truly reflects the characteristics of its population. This research examines the results of local elections in Jeju, analyzing gender statistics in decision-making processes. Additionally, the research investigates the demographic characteristics of women elected officials and candidates. In-depth interviews with 40 women including former and current female politicians, party officials and local women leaders aim to uncover socio-structural barriers and facilitators for women in politics. The research proposes 10 tasks to enhance women's political representation.
