The purpose of this study is to shed light on the birth and growth of the Jeju women's movement in the modern period and point out the implications and challenges that history gives us today. Through the study, it was confirmed that the women's movement in modern Korea and Jeju was not only a national independence movement, but also had a multi-layered character of resistance to gender discrimination and women's liberation. In a society where Japanese oppression and a culture of discrimination against women were prevalent, women in Jeju fought against patriarchal barriers from their parents and society to receive education, and women who awakened consciousness took various paths, including the anti-Japanese movement, the women's education movement, and the labor and peasant movement. Research on the modern women's movement in Jeju region also leaves us various future tasks, including discovering and utilizing the history of women's movements in local villages and communities, studying the social movements of Jeju women in other regions and abroad, research on the women's movement leading to post-colonial period, and so on.
