This study comprehensively analyzes the current status of women’s economic activity and related policies in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and proposes policy strategies that reflect the region’s characteristics. To this end, it examines key trends in women’s economic activity in Jeju using microdata from the Census on Establishments and the Local Area Labour Force Survey. It also reviews policies of the national government and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province aimed at supporting women’s economic activity.
In addition, focus group interviews (FGIs) were conducted with 21 experts in women’s economic activity to identify key issues, policy needs, and future directions for support in Jeju. Based on the findings, the study proposes the following policy priorities: enhancing employment support services for women; supporting employment through digital education and training; improving the quality of women’s jobs; supporting women entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses; preventing career interruptions and promoting work-life balance; fostering a gender-equal employment environment; and strengthening the policy implementation system for supporting women’s economic activity.
